Books into TV Series

So a big trend going on now is popular children's novels being made into movies (Harry Potter, Twilight, Percy Jackson, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Bridge to Teribithia, the list is endless) but another trend that is working it's way into the works is YA series being made into TV series.

Now I'll admit, I am totally 100% addicted. I love The Vampire Diaries. Each week I'm left breathlessly waiting for the next episode to come out. But why? I started to read the first book in the series and it didn't draw me in. But I can't get enough of it on TV! Maybe it's because Damon is such the deliciously gorgeous bad boy. He is a good 75% of why I watch the show. But he's so good.

Another reason I think I devour shows like Gossip Girl is because of the drama. As for Gosssip Girl, I read 9 or 10 books of the series...and I actually really didn't like them all that much. The show is MUCH different than the books but what rings true throughout each is the juicy drama that keeps building and building until finally it explodes with gasps of "OMG did that just happen!?" and "Oh no don't do it!" I know it's completely unrealistic...and possibly brain damaging but again, I can't. get. enough. I love it! Maybe I have different standards for what I read and what I'll watch on TV. When acting, and costumes, and steamy kissing scenes are added to the the mix I'll throw away my moral standards for 45 minutes to watch it all unfold. And also, Chuck Bass is sexy. Very sexy.

And now there's a new show coming out on ABC Family based on the Pretty Little Liars novels (I definitely just put the first one on hold at the library). Here's a sneak peak:

So what do you all think? Do you watch any of these shows or others I didn't mention? Why or why not?

And do you love Damon as much as I do?

Have you seen True Blood? It's based on a book series by Charlaine Harris. I like some parts of the show, and Bill is HOT. :) It's only on cable, though :(

I thought I'd better check out the series, so I ordered the first one at the library: Dead Until Dark. I'm really hoping I like this series because there's a lot of them!

I'm with you, I could not get into the vampire diaries book, but I love ths show, and Damon is amazing.
I watched Gossip Girl when it first aired but I stopped for a while and now I don't know whats going on. I don't think I will watch Pretty Little Liars I've got too much to watch already I can't fit in another show

I read the first 4 Vampire Diaries books when I was about 14-ish, so I liked them well enough. The last book however, I just could not get into at all. The TV show, I *Love* it! I agree, Damon is smoken'! I just love a good bad boy, LOL. But, Stephen is pretty hot too..

I used to watch Gossip Girl. I stopped though. Just got tired of TV in general for a year or so and haven't watched it since.

I agree with Kelsey, Ture Blood rocks!!! I own the first season and am (non) patiently awaiting the release of the 2nd season (sometime in May). But, I don't think Bill is all that hot.. Eric on the other hand.. WOWZA! He is drool worthy. I never read the books the TV show is based on though..

Oh my God, Damon ... Now THAT is a fine specimen. The Vampire Diaries has great action and suspense and all that, but if it weren't for the beautiful Damon, I'm not sure I'd be that into it. (Does that make me vain? No, don't answer that.)

I think I read the VD series in high school, but I can't remember. I have no desire to read the GG books, or Pretty Little Liars, but I'm excited about the PLL show, and I already eat up GG. (Chuck Bass = sigh ... I guess I'm not as over the "bad boy" thing as I thought!)

p.s. My word verification is "uretion." Eww.
